This policy covers upkeepmag.com, published by Upkeep Magazine, and the two lists you can join there: The Weekly Upkeep, our email newsletter, and our text messages.
What we collect, and only when you give it to us
- Your email address, when you sign up for The Weekly Upkeep.
- Your mobile number, when you sign up for texts.
- With each sign-up: the site you signed up on, the wording of the consent you saw, the time, and where your visit came from (for example, our Instagram link).
How we count visits. We count visits ourselves, with no cookies, advertising tags or outside analytics. For each page you open we record which page it was, where the visit came from (the link you followed, such as our Instagram profile, or the site that sent you), whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer, how far down the page you went, how long each part of the page was on screen, and whether you opened the sign-up box or signed up. It is stored without your name, email address or IP address.
On your device. The site keeps one note in your browser’s storage: whether you have joined or closed the sign-up box, so it does not keep asking. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
What our host sees. Our host, Google Firebase, processes the technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser, to deliver the pages. We do not use them to identify you.
How we use it
- Your email address, to send you The Weekly Upkeep.
- Your mobile number, to send you the texts you signed up for, on the terms at upkeepmag.com/terms.
- The visit counts, to see which links bring readers here and which parts of the site they read.
Nothing else. We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
Who else handles it. Only the companies that run the service for us: Google, which hosts the site and stores the sign-ups, and, once texts begin, the provider that sends them. Each handles your information only to do that job. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text message opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party.
Where it is stored. Sign-ups and visit counts are stored in Google’s Cloud Firestore, readable only by Upkeep Magazine’s publisher.
How long we keep it. Your email address or number, until you leave a list or ask us to delete it. Visit counts hold nothing that identifies you, and we keep them until we delete them.
Your choices
- Leave the newsletter by writing to hello@upkeepmag.com.
- Leave the texts by replying STOP to any text.
- See, correct or delete what we hold about you by writing to hello@upkeepmag.com.
Children. This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. The texts are for people 18 and over.
Changes. If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use what you already gave us, we ask first.
